PBaRS 2nd leg up in Bacolod
MANILA, Philippines - After the kickoff leg in Manila, action in the MVP Sports Foundation-Bingo Bonanza Philippine Badminton Ranking System (PBaRS) swings to Bacolod for the second leg set May 31-June 5 at the Pohang Badminton Courts.
Registration for the Bacolod event is open until 6 p.m. tomorrow at the PBaRS office on No. 20 E. Maclang St., San Juan City.
Players who competed in the first leg no longer needs to submit NSO birth certificates or proof of citizenship. For details, log on to www.pbars.com or email [email protected].
The PBaRS series is a project of Vice President Jejomar Binay, Rep. Albee Benitez and businessman-sportsman Manny Pangilinan in their collective effort to bring the sport to a higher level and produce world-class players.
Davao will host the third stage on July 31-Aug. 6 before the circuit winds up with the VP Grand Prix Badminton Open Championships on Oct. 22-29 in Manila.
At stake in the PBaRS tournaments are rich prizes including P70,000 for the open class champion, P20,000 for U-19 and U-15 winners and P10,000 for singles, doubles and mixed doubles victors.
Other backers of the circuit are PLDT-Smart Foundation, Victor PCOME Industrial Sales, Gatorade and Powersmash with The Philippine STAR, TV5, Badminton Extreme Philippines Magazine, Jam 88.3, Wave 89.1, Magic 89.9, 99.5 RT and 103.5 WOW! as media partners.
The circuit’s kickoff leg in Manila last March proved to be a huge success putting in motion a new ranking system that will determine the composition of the national team competing in various international events.
“PBaRS is overwhelmed by the tremendous support it has received, not only from its supporters and sponsors, but also from the entire badminton community. In Bacolod, we expect a banner field and fresh talents to emerge,” said PBaRS tournament director Nelson Asuncion.
