'Decade of Action for Road Safety' relay today

MANILA, Philippines - Major stakeholders in the intensified campaign for road courtesy and discipline in the country’s major streets band together for the “Decade of Action for Road Safety” Relay starting early this morning at Kilometer 0, Rizal Park and ending at Prestige Parking in front of Asian Development Bank Building in Mandaluyong City.

Runners from the government, private, automotive, transport and commuting sectors will take part in the relay to drive home the event’s theme of “Acknowledging the Strength of the Alliance in Perpetuating (ASAP)” a unified Act of Commitment in promoting public awareness of making the nation’s main thoroughfares safe for motorists and commuters alike. The global launch of the eveent is also set today.

Spearheading the relay are the officials of the Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership, World Health Organization (WHO), Department of Health, Department of Transportation and Communications and Automobile Association Philippines in recognition of the United Nations declaration of 2011-2020 as the “Decade of Action for Road Safety.”

“This is our own contribution to underscore the vital importance of curbing traffic accidents that often lead not only to the loss of millions of pesos worth of property but also precious lives as well,” said Ron de los Reyes of the organizing Visions in Action Enterprises, Inc.
