MANILA, Philippines - Joseph Orillana, Edmer Del Socorro and Alpha Turaray combined for a three-hit job as Cebu got back at Batangas, 9-0, to gain a share of the lead with Manila in Baseball Philippines Series 8 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
With their hurlers frustrating the Bulls in morning drizzle, Christian Maghanoy, Miggy Corcuera and Del Socorro took care of Cebu’s offense as the Dolphins made up for their 5-8 to the Bulls last Saturday that snapped their back-to-back victories to open their campaign in the league organized by Community Sports Inc. and sponsored by Gatorade and Rawlings.
“Our pitchers played well and it got us going and our hitters bounced back after we struggled against their pitchers last week,” said Cebu coach Isaac Bacarisas.
Maghanoy hit a bases-loaded double to advance Corcuera and Orillana home while Joannard Pareja reached home on an error in the second inning.
Corcuera made it 4-0 after a double that scored Del Socorro, who opened the third frame with a double. In the seventh, Corcuera advanced Del Socorro home again with an RBI single.
After Maghanoy raced home on a throwing error, Del Socorro took over with a double in the eighth, advancing Ramil Magno, Reynaldo Calma and Jonash Ponce home.
