SSC trips NU; Ateneo unbeaten

MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian College’s veterans delivered the goods as the Stags clubbed erstwhile unbeaten National University, 81-74, yesterday in the 2011 Filoil Flying V Hanes Pre-season Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan.

Ian Sangalang (20 points and 10 rebounds), Ronald Pascual (18 points and three assists) and Calvin Abueva (18 points and 14 rebounds) took turns in a major second half assault that enabled San Sebastian to pull off the come-from-behind win, their second in three games.

The young Bulldogs dropped to 4-1 and yielded the Group A lead to Ateneo, which went 4-0 earlier after routing Arellano, 70-53.

Pascual fired two of his three triples in an 18-8 attack as the Stags wiped out the Bulldogs’ 55-44 edge to end the third quarter just down by one, 62-63.

Abueva and Sangalang went to work at the start of the fourth, kicking off a 13-0 blast that gave SSC its first double-digit lead at 75-63, 3:16 left.
