Cansino cops 2nd leg title
ZAMBOANGA City, Philippines - Davao City’s Juan Paolo Cansino grabbed his second leg title in the Smart presents HEAD Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit 2011 age-group national tour in the eighth leg recently at the Zamboanga Lawn Tennis Club.
The 16-year-old Cansino showed his brilliant form to smother No. 2 Rogelio Estanio Jr., 10-3, and capture his second boy’s 18-under class title in the event supported by Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Head, the official ball, and Toalson.
“When you play here in this circuit, you need to be at your best and it is really great to win,” said Cansino, who also defeated Estanio Jr. in the 18-under event during the Iloilo fifth leg to gain his first crown in the 13th year national junior tennis circuit.
Top seed Lenelyn Milo won her third girl’s 18-under crown by downing second seed Chelsea Gacho, 10-4, while Estanio Jr. pocketed the boy’s 16-under title by beating Jeleardo Amazona, 10-2.
Chelsea Gacho, earlier, survived Milo, 10-8, to win the girl’s 16-under title in the finals of the tournament where more than 100 young players participated to seek ranking points from the Philippine Tennis Association.
Noel Damian scored 10-4 victory in the finals to claim the boy’s 14-under division crown against Allian Abdulqahar, while Gillian Quimco bashed Alyza Delos Reyes, 10-4, for the girl’s 14-under class crown.
Zamboanga City Lawn Tennis Club in Petit Barracks headed by President Ramon Saavedra nominated Raymond Damian and Chelsea Gacho as best player of Zamboanga City leg.
The Dapitan City leg will officially start this week at the popular Dakak Resort, where world junior campaigners Head team elite Jeson Patrombon, Marinel Rudas, Cansino, Christian Fel Lopez, Jeleardo Amazona and Estanio Jr., among other best player of every region will spice up the five day circuit.
Former Congressman Romeo “ Nonong” Jalosjos owned Dakak Park and Beach Resort has commissioned the repair and rehabilitation of three adjacent Tennis Courts with the same surface.
Jalosjos said they are very enthusiastic with this activity as this will help us drum up the Palarong Pambansa here in Dapitan City on May 8 to14, 2011.
After the Dapitan City leg four more tournaments will continue in Baguio City on May 16 to 19, Olongapo City on May 21 to 24, San Pablo Laguna on May 26 to 28 and the final leg will be in Meralco Pasig on May 30-June 5,2011.
