TRS kids triumph in national karting

MANILA, Philippines - Tuason Racing School re-established its reputation as the home of future racing champs as Castrol Champions of the Future protégés dominated the National Karting Super Series anew at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

Top bet Raymond Cudala unveiled another sterling performance as he pulled off a big escape in the tight battle for the finish in the Cadet SQ class with the big support of Castrol, Bridgestone, OMP, Oakley, Discovery Suites, Belo Men, Coke Zero, Toptul, Speedlab and C! Magazine.

Cudala, a 12-year-old Grade 5 student of Elizabeth Seton School, became the main target after ruling the kickoff leg last month as his rivals noticeably showed marked improvements in the race. 

After topping the qualifying and pre-final heats, Cudala was surprised with the tough challenge from Stephen Taylor and Arthur Tuason, a third generation karter from the renowned Tuason racing clan.

Although the wide track provides opportunity for any karter to win in a tight finish, Cudala’s defensive strategy worked well as he blocked doors for others to pass and wrapped up the eight-lap race in 13 minute, 0.599 seconds.

He narrowly escaped by just 0.324 seconds over Taylor and 0.991 second over third placer Arthur Tuason.

Other TRS protégés occupied the next four spots.

Casequin, the nine-year-old son of touring car champion and TRS race car driver Stuart MacDonald, was bogged with problems during the race and came in 28.240 seconds later to check in fourth while seven-year-old Flynn Keeling Jackes ended fifth.

Taking the next two spots were Tai Zulberti and 13-year-old Philippine Science High School freshman Dominique Lao.

 “They have fitted well into our Castrol program as they have consistently improved. Aside from clocking competitive laptimes, they have demonstrated impressive offensive and defensive maneuvers. Even this early, they’ve shown big potentials as the country’s future racing superstars,” said TRS president JP Tuason.
