Docena, other fancied bets win

MANILA, Philippines - Top seed Jedara Docena defeated Vangielyn Bautista to lead the march of the favorites in the girls 20-and-under division of the Davao City Mayor Inday Sarah Duterte Cup-National age-group chess championships at the Gaisano Mall in Davao City Monday.

The other opening round winners were second seed Mary Israel Palero, who outclassed Veronica Bondoc; third seed Eibtizam Nahudam, who trounced Mae Ching; fourth seed Mikee Charlene Suede, who whipped Carol Anne Chua; and fifth seed Akiko Charmaine Suede, who dumped Angelina Mortos.

Top seed Sheider Nebato, however, was held to a draw by Khier Embrado in the boys 20 under category.
