Highlands sets Ladies Fed title duel vs Alabang
MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands posted a rout while defending champion Alabang needed a little hard work in finishing off their respective semifinal opponents recently to arrange a duel for the 2011 Ladies Federation League championship.
With the Highlands ladies coming off a 4-0 sweep and needing just a draw to wrap up the series, Marvi Monsalve and Jessalyn Tan delivered the clinching point by winning the greensomes format on the 16th hole for a victory that sent the Tagaytay squad to their third trip to the finals.
Sandy Romualdez and Totelle Dimson were 2 up on the 10th hole while Bern Wong and Roni Wuson were three ahead on the 11th when they were called back to the clubhouse as the Tagaytay win was already assured by teammates Monsalve and Tan.
Three close matches marked Alabang’s visit to Sta. Elena which ended in a 3-1 result for the defending champions to complete a 6-2 semifinal win in the home-and-away series.
Tagaytay and Alabang clash for the crown on April 28 and 29 with both teams eyeing their second titles.
After Finina Gorres and Ui Mendoza took a 4-2 win in aggregate play for Alabang, Rita Horan and Carol Neilsen, playing in high low, pulled off a 2 up win to lower the boom on Sta. Elena which was still hoping to reverse a 1-3 loss they suffered days earlier.
Marjorie Lopingco and Edna Nguyen contributed a 1 up win in best-ball for the Alabang cause that more than made up for the loss of Geleen Handog and Greely Oposa in greensomes play.
