Mejia tops Magnolia rapid chess tourney

MANILA, Philippines - Youthful campaigner Giovanni Mejia ruled the 39th edition of the first Saturday Magnolia Beverages rapid chess tournament at the Perez Bldg., Better Living, Parañaque City recently.

Mejia defeated Arsenio Valencerina, Jr. to emerge the solo winner in the monthly tournament organized by the Brgy. Don Bosco Chess Club headed by Dr. Bong Perez.

Narciso Gumila of Tondo, Manila placed second while Marc Paraguya of Bacoor, Cavite placed third.

Rounding up the top 10 finishers were Efren Arguelles, Arsenio Valencerina, Jr., Erwin Calar, Ervil Villa, Andrew Casiano, Nhatz Loyaga and Jefferson Caja.

Meanwhile, the next first Saturday Magnolia Rapid chess tournament will be held on May 7.
