MANILA, Philippines - Bacolod edged Iloilo, 1-0, in a duel of fancied teams as it took the pole position in the Visayas Regionals of the PFF Suzuki Under-23 Cup at the Cimafranca Field in Dumaguete City over the weekend.
Jay Baguioro slammed the lone goal off Iloilo keeper Wilson Muñoz, who lost possession after foiling Bacolod midfielder Jovin Bedic’s low cross from the right wing in the 44th minute.
“It’s a real rivalry. Whether elementary, high school, collegiate or club game. We expect nothing less from them and vice versa,” said Bacolod head coach Norman Fegidero.
It was a typical Bacolod-Iloilo match with elbows, tackles, and harsh words thrown around. Eight yellow cards were issued with one red card.
The match was temporarily stopped in the 70th minute when Iloilo assistant coach Richard Bedia was thrown out by referee Vladimir Villacora.
Iloilo dominated first half action with superb control in the midfield by Francis Gustilo and Shirmar Felongco.
