Roman shines in Colt 45 racing
MANILA, Philippines - Rising underbone star Anthony Roman grabbed the limelight by capturing two titles Saturday at the start of the first Colt 45 Motorcycle Race of Champions at the Marikina City Hall grounds.
Riding the Yamaha Crypton Z bike, Roman topped the 115 open and 150 four-stroke categories in races held at the challenging 600-m course designed by Superbikes champion Maico Buncio.
Roman swept the two races in the 150 open four-stroke to amass a maximum 50 points and best the strong field that included Alvin Oribiana, who got 40 points to settle for second overall after posting a pair of third-place finishes. Benjo Mendoza finished third also with 40 points.
While the 150 open four-stroke proved to be a breeze, Roman was given all that he can handle by Marcko Delaganzo in the 115 open races.
Roman leaned on his victory on the second race after Delaganzo ruled the opening heat. With results of the second race given more weight, Roman took the tiebreak. Reggie Adia finished third.
The Marikina race is the first of six legs sponsored by Colt 45, which is promoting responsible riding, according to Colt 45 brand manager Joseph Consul.
