Dondon Hontiveros
This deadly guard is one of the few pure shooters to hail from Cebu, playing college hoops at the University of Cebu for three years. He started playing professionally for the Cebu Gems at the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association.
When the MBA folded up, Hontiveros signed with the Tanduay Rhum Masters in the Philippine Basketball Association. He was then acquired by San Miguel Beer when Tanduay disbanded in 2004. There, Hontiveros flourished, becoming a key component in the Beermen's offense and aided the team to several championship runs.
Hontiveros recently hogged the sports headlines when he and SMB teammates Danny Seigle, Dorian Pena and Paul Artadi were traded to the Air21 Express for Rabah Al Husseni, Nonoy Baclao and Rey Guevarra.
At Air21, Hontiveros continued to pour in significant numbers, leading the Express to the semifinals of the current PBA Commissioner's Cup. His sterling performance caught the attention of Smart Gilas coach Rajko Toroman, who recently announced Hontiveros' selection as a reinforcement to the national team.
Hontiveros shoots well beyond the arc and is known for his pesky defense.
