Badillo, Garcia capture Southwoods overall title
MANILA, Philippines - Mario Badillo and guest partner Ramon Garcia turned in a pair of 82s to pool a 164 and capture the overall net team championship in the Manila Southwoods Invitational at the Legends and Masters courses in Carmona, Cavite recently.
Joseph Tambunting and teammate James Wang bagged the overall gross team crown with a 143 aggregate from rounds of 73 at Legends and 70 at the hazard-laden Masters layout to share the top honors in the tournament presented by Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp., Diamond Motors Corp. and Royal Caribbean International/Baron Travel Corp.
Siblings Richard and Philip Brodett combined for 82 and 80 for a 162 then nipped Allan Yap and guest teammate Oliver Gan, who also shot identical 82 and 80, in the countback to bag the Division I crown in the country’s biggest member-guest tournament which offered a total prize package of P5 million.
Sharing the spotlight in the 36-hole, four-day championship were grand raffle winners Ramon Caballero, who drove home a brand-new Mitsubishi Lancer, and Jose Melchor del Pilar, who won the Alaska Cruise from Royal Caribbean International and Baron Travel Corp.
Manolo Agojo and partner Henry de Dios took the Division II plum with a 160 from rounds of 82 and 78 for a three-point victory over the Danilo Olanosa-Rudy Fulo tandem, who strung up rounds of 82 and 75 for a 157.
Arlette Dizon and guest partner Jung Hak Soon also ran away with the Division III crown as they carded an 80 and an 82 for a 162, six clear of the Felix Cortez-Ronald Hizon pair, which had a 156 from a 74-82.
Fernando Malveda and Dante Felizarta assembled a 78-72 card for a 150 and snatched the Division IV title over Bernie Sevilla and Vic Esguerra, who had a 79 and a 71, via countback.
Tony Villaruel and Oscap Patricio carded a 79 and a 69 for a 148, edging Raymond Bunquin and Rex Goquingco, who had 73-64-147, for the Sponsors Division crown in the event backed by major sponsors Air21, Phils. Inc., Fil-Estate Land, Inc., Mizuno/TaylorMade, Resorts World Manila and The Address at Wack Wack and hole-in-one sponsors The Turf Company/Texas Eagle Golf Cart, Pacsports/Club Car and Pioneer Insurance.
