Amago heads newly formed swimming coaches association
MANILA, Philippines - Emil Amago of Lipa, Batangas, representing Southern Tagalog, was unanimously elected president of the newly formed Philippine Aquatic Sports Coaches Association (PASCA).
The other officers were Edgar Galeno (vice president), Nunilon Moreno (secretary) and Emerlindo Matienzo (treasurer).
The members of the board are Noy Fileteo, Jairullah Jaitulla, Edmundo Babiera, Junette Abesamis, Virgilio de Luna, Bernie Cabida, Sammy Banzon, Chito Rivera, Jeffrey Mendrano, Dave San San Juan and Norman Francisco.
Former Sen. Nikki Coseteng inducted and congratulated the officers and members of the board in ceremonies held yesterday at the Diliman Preparatory School, home of the development swimming program of the Philioppine Swimming League under president Susan Papa.
“I am happy that the swimming community finally moved on, there is no more fear and they will fight for what is right,” said Coseteng of the coaches who broke away from Philippine Aquatic Sports Association to form a new coaches association.
“We can finally put swimming in order. We have lost a lot of time and we will make sure that we can make up for lost years,” said Amago.
Coseteng said the PASCA’s program will be a boost for coaches and swimmers, also citing the efforts of the new association which worked for the inclusion of non-PASA members in the Arafura Games in Australia next month and the Pinoy Games in Bacolod where non-PASA members were previously barred from competing.
“We thank Sen. Coseteng for the victory of the swimming community which has been deprived of improvement and advancement for the longest period of time,” said Papa.
Also present during the induction rites were swimmers bound for the Hong Kong invitational met.
