Cuartero books spot in Phl Open
MANILA, Philippines - Allan Cuartero trounced Andrew Kong of Hong Kong, 9-4, at the Star Billiards Center Sunday to book a seat in main draw of the Philippine Open Pool Championships.
Cuartero, an OFW, came through with a lucky shot in the 13th rack, a bank shot on No. 2 covered by No. 6, to complete the victory in the qualifier.
“It was a lucky shot,” said Cuartero. “But that’s the only way for me to get off a shot and I was lucky to pull it off.”
He thus joined fellow Filipinos Jundel Mazon and Roberto Gomez in the tournament proper which reels off April 7 at SM Megamall.
Meanwhile, the foreign bets continued to dominate the ladies side of the qualifiers with former Asian Games gold medalist Lin Yuan Chun of Chinese Taipei and Wu Jing of China beating their respective opponents to advance.
Lin, a former 8-ball gold medalist in the 2006 Doha Asian Games, outplayed Tsai Pei Chen, 7-4, while Wu repulsed a late charge by Filipina Floriza Andal, 7-5.
