Estanio enters 2 finals in Smart-Head tennis

MANILA, Philippines -  Rogelio Estanio Jr. defeated Elvie Lopez Jr. twice, 10-5, 10-2, to set up a pair of final duels with unfancied Karl Laurenz Magno and Jeleardo Amazona in the Smart presents Head Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit 2011 Age-Group National Tennis Championship in Koronadal City yesterday.

The second-seeded Estanio held off Lopez in their 18-and-under division clash and dominated his rival in their 16-and-under semis showdown at the South Cotabato Sports Complex Tennis Courts.

Magno, on the other hand, upended James Sumaylo, 10-4, while Amazona upset second seed Kurt Gerapusco, 10-5, in the boys’ 16-and-under semis.

Top seed Nikki Rei Arandia clipped Lenelyn Milo, 10-5, and No. 2 Jzash Canja walloped Mice Tagki, 10-1, to arrange a championship duel in the girls’ 18-and-under class of the event backed by Chris Sports, Meralco, Maynilad, Head, the official ball, and Toalson.

Arandia also gained a crack at a double championship as she beat Jzash Canja, 10-7, in the 16-and-under semis. She will take on Lenelyn Milo, a 10-1 winner of Dianne Caballero, in the finals.

Second seed Christian Fel Lopez made it to the 14-and-under boys division finals by crushing Mikko Ringia, 10-1, but will have his hands full against No. 1 Jeleardo Amazona, who defeated Emmanuel Estrope, 10-5.

Top pick Jenni Dizon and Sharyl Delos Santos blanked Dianne Caballero and Trina Factora, respectively, to set up a clash in the girls’ 14-and-under finals.

Mice Tagki won against Trina Factora, 10-4, while Carlyn Guarde beat Kath Arandia, 10-8, to dispute the crown in the girl’s 12-and-under category.

In the boy’s 12 and under class semis, top seed Jafarry Cariga tripped Nicole Gorospe, 10-2, while John Otico won against Janus Ringia.

In the unisex 10 and under, Janus Ringia defeated Mark Alfred Directo, 10-4, and Nicole Gorospe scuttled Joshua Regino, 10-5, to face each other in the finals.
