Tiu, Go back on title trail in BRC drag racing
MANILA, Philippines - JCT-Blanche Racing’s Jonathan Tiu and Anthony Go are back on the title trail following their separate victories recently in the second leg of the 2011 National Drag Racing Championship Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip in Rosario, Batangas.
Tiu, the eight-time drag racing champion, reasserted his supremacy in the Quick 8 class for his first season win in this event supported by Pagcor Sports, Yokohama Philippines, Chequered Flag, Racing Beat@Wave 89.1 FM, Aeromed, and sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.
Go boosted his hopes for a back-to-back crown when he ruled the Pro class.
Tiu made it to the finals after turning back Norman Alejandrino of H3 Autoworx and Go in the early goings to face Southern leg kickoff winner JM Dumaraos of Team Bats-Rapide who survived the ordeal against more favored rivals Vanni Garcia of Vannitec and Norman de la Peña of QSP.
But in the final duel, exhaustion took its toll on Dumaraos, who clocked 13.015 seconds against Tiu, who surged ahead with a time of 10.809 seconds to capture the crown.
Go, who claimed the Quick 8 third place, redeemed himself later when he copped the Pro title over Michael San Andres of MSA-Gabo and third placer Martin Manalo of RSL.
Go and San Andres were even during the first 50 meters before the former packed speed to pull ahead midway and win the crown with a time of 12.017 against the latter’s 17.321.
Rommel Dural of Speed Mode topped the Expert class clocking 13.39 to turn back Karl Nikolai Asi of Ger and Friends and JM Dumaraos.
Winning the other titles were Montavita’s Ralph Emerson Montalbo and Jude Kenneth Carrido.
Montalbo prevailed over Montavita teammate Angelo Miguel Mendoza and Kurt Villamil of Mohspeed to clinch the Sportsman crown.
Carrido, on the other hand, clocked 16.107 to rule the Hotstreet division over Ralph Jermaine De Guzman of Lorwtoys and Fritz Olan of Group N-Matonetics.
