Run with the Masters set April 17

MANILA, Philippines – The Run with the Masters fires off April 17 with a big field expected to participate in the event which starts in front of the Rizal Monument and ends at the Quirino Grandstand.

Cenovis fish oil capsules and Aronamin Gold multi vitamins have thrown their full backing to the event, backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee’s Supports Committee.

The Run with the Masters is the initial project of the National Masters and Senior Athletics Association of the Philippines (NMSAAP) featuring the 21K, 3K, 10K and the centerpiece 21.1K races.

The 3K will be limited to 1,000 runners on a first-come, first-served basis.

“The proceeds of the race will be used to help finance Team Philippines’ campaign in the World Master Athletics Championship (WMAC) slated July 6-17 in Sacramento, California,” said NMSAAP president Manny Ibay.

Heading the Phl team are former SEA Games gold medalist hurdler Elma Muros Posadas, javelin thrower Erlinda Lavandia and pole vaulter Emerson Obiena.

Obiena clinched the gold in the 2009 WMAC in Finland with Lavandia, gold medalist in the 2003 and 2005 editions in Puerto Rico and Spain, respectively, settling for silver.

Muros also took a silver and Obiena a bronze in 2005.
