Top MMA fighters vie in URCC showdown

-

MANILA, Philippines –  The country’s leading mixed martial artists, including the longest reigning champion from the Lakay MMA, strut their stuff in the Colt 45-Universal Reality Combat Championship XIX on April 2 at the World Trade Center in Pasay.

Roy “Punisher” Docyogen, one of Lakay MMA’s top guns and holder of the pinweight crown since 2006, hopes to reaffirm his mastery over YawYan Buhawi’s Alvin “Sindikato” Ramirez as they clash in the featured match of the event presented by Colt 45.

Ramirez lost to Docyogen in their Nov. 2009 clash but recovered by winning his next two fights.

“Their fight is about revenge and pride, so we expect another bone-crackling action,” said URCC president and founder Alvin Aguilar.

Ten bouts are on tap in the event co-sponsored by Chris Sports and Tribal Gear with Aguilar expecting all fights – a 10-minute, two-round contest – to go down to the wire. First match starts at 7 p.m.

While focus will be on the Docyogen-Ramirez showdown, Aguilar said the other matches should also be worth watching since they have trained long and hard for the event, the biggest MMA tournament so far this year.

Also out to make a statement is another Lakay MMA star, Honorio “Rock” Banario, who will take on Davao’s KO king Angelito “Saint” Manguray in the lightweight division. Manguray is still undefeated in URCC and Martial Combat tournaments.

Tickets – priced at P1,000, P500, and P250 – are now available at TicketWorld (tel. No. 891-9999. For more information, log on to www.urccmma.com.
