MCC to hold summer tourneys

MANILA, Philippines - The Milo-sponsored Checkmate chess clinics will hold a series of summer tournaments in five venues in Metro Manila, two in Luzon and one in Visayas.

The early chess classes will start on March 14 at ETON Cyberpod Corinthian at EDSA cor Ortigas Ave. every M-W-F 2-5 p.m., March 17 at McDonald’s-Binondo, daily sessions 8:30 -11:30 a.m. and on March 21 at Wiz Child Kindergarten situated at 123 Speaker Perez cor Retiro Sts. with daily sessions 8:30-11:30 a.m. and Little Presidents Learning Palace, San Miguel Ave., Manila 1:30-4:30 p.m. daily.

The clinic consists of 10 sessions with six regular lectures, a final evaluation tournament, opening study session and a simul-clock exhibition matches against the masters.

The program, patterned after the famous and former USSR chess development system for the youth, has produced many of the country’s leading players, including GMs Wesley So, John Paul Gomez, Mark Paragua and Ronald Dableo.

The classes in Luzon will begin on March 29 at St. Paul College in Bantay, Ilocos Sur and April 1 at Nepo Mall-Dagupan. In Visayas, the clinic will be held at Bohol Quality Mall in Tagbilaran, Bohol April 3-5.

Classes will be handled by well-trained Milo-sponsored Checkmate chess instructors, headed by WNM Mila Emperado, National Masters Noel dela Cruz, Deniel Causo, Mirabeau Maga, Jerome Balico, Emmanuel Emperado along with guest lecturers IM Chito Garma and Dableo.

The regular classes in other schools in Metro Manila will start on April 4 while the clinic in Cagayan de Oro will begin on April 11 at Lim Ket Kai Mall.
