Mosley opens training camp in Big Bear

- Abac Cordero -

MANILA, Philippines –  From the snow-capped mountains of Big Bear in southern California, Shane Mosley fired warning shots, all directed at the opposing camp.

Mosley, now in training for his May 7 battle with Filipino pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, told Elie Sechbach of ESNews he can’t wait for the fight.

“We work hard. We do a lot of work,” he said as his camp coordinator, Hassan Abdul Rahim, sat closely.

Then they took notice of recent online reports concerning Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, and adviser, Mike Koncz.

It concerns a report quoting Koncz that negotiations are, once again, underway for a Pacquiao fight with Floyd Mayweather.

But Arum seemed to have shot it down, saying there’s none.

“What’s going on with that? What are they doing? Don’t they know they’ve go to fight me?” Mosley asked.

It was Sechbach, probably, who answered by saying, “Maybe they forgot.”

“They forgot?” was Mosley’s reply.

The pride of Pomona in California said on fight night, just two months away from now, he will make everybody remember.

“It’s just silly to me though. They better be thinking about me,” he said.

Mosley added that people close to Pacquiao thinking of the Mayweather fight when there’s already one up ahead was a “disservice” to the Filipino champion.

He said it might give everybody, including Pacquiao, the impression that they’re taking Mosley lightly, something which they can’t afford.

“I’m going to be the hardest fighter he fought in his whole life. He’s never going to fight a guy like me, ever,” said Mosley.

“They have no idea what they put their man into. They have no idea right now. No idea of what’s about to happen,” he added.

Does he think that the other camp is taking him lightly, for them to start thinking or talking about the Mayweather fight?

Mosley said yes.

“I think they’re taking me lightly because they feel that I’m old. They feel that my last two fights were not spectacular. But this particular fight is different.

“My motivation, my pride is way up, way up right now. It’s so high I just cant wait to get in there and fight,” he said.

It’s time to take Mosley seriously.
