Globe Run attracts big field

-

MANILA, Philippines -  Runners of all ages, gender, shapes and sizes, and affiliation and interests are expected to answer the starting gun for the year’s first biggest charity fun run, the Globe Run for Home 2011 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City on March 27.

Barely a few weeks after the online registration via www.globe.com.ph/run which started on Feb. 21, the registry book for the Globe Run for Home 2011 started to swell as the foot race-cum-benefit event has attracted the attention not only of the competitive but the fun and leisure and health-conscious barkada runners as well. Quite a remarkable feat for the country’s biggest charity fun run that is focused on alleviating poverty by building houses for those in need.

This unique feature is expected to turn in more donations from the race proceeds. Globe Telecom, a leading telecommunications provider, partnered with four major institutions to help build shelter for the underprivileged communities, abused children and yes, even for nature conservation. These partner-institutions are Gawad Kalinga, Habitat for Humanity, Haribon Foundation and Virlanie Foundation. Information about these beneficiaries can also be found in www.globe.com.ph/run.

All runners could pledge their donations to their partner-institution of choice. For each registration in any category, a portion of the registration fee goes to the runner’s beneficiary of choice.

Registration fees per category are P650 for 3K, P750 for 5K, P850 for 10K, P950 for 15K and P1,050 for 21K. The registration fee entitles runners to their race singlets (made of 100 percent recycled PET bottles, a “first” among running events in the country) available in various sizes, D-tag race chip, race bib number, runpix analysis, downloadable photos and finisher’s medal (for the 21K category).

In order to attract more participants, group runners are also encouraged to join with a special treat. For groups of four running in the same category, they will be allowed to bring in a fifth member for free.

The deadline for online registration, which could be paid through credit card, is on March 15. However, for those who may want to pay in cash, they can proceed to the Run for Home 2011 physical registration booth located at the 4th floor Cinema Lobby of Greenbelt 3 in Makati City which started on Feb. 28. Race kits of runners paying in credit card will be delivered to their respective addresses while those paying in cash may claim their race kits at the on-site registration booth up to March 20 from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

Running coach extraordinaire and Globe Tattoo endorser Rio de la Cruz of Runrio takes the lead in organizing this year’s Run for Home with Eventking Corporation as event manager. Major sponsors are Alaska and 100 Plus while minor sponsors include Airphil Express, Air21, Intel and Timex.
