Energen backs NBTC public schools division

MANILA, Philippines - Energen of TAO Corporation has thrown its full support for the public schools division of the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Developmental League or NBTC D-League.

Organizers said it’s about time for the NBTC D-League to have a public school component after it has successfully instituted individual skills training and competitive playing environment in the provinces since it started in 2008.

“We are aware that this (public school system) is one of the sectors of our society that needs enough attention when it comes to sports programs,” said NBTC program director Eric Altamirano.

He added that through the help of the Department of Education, they were able to identify 80 national public high schools and a total of 4,800 students and 320 coaches to avail themselves of the program that has Molten as official ball along with Filoil and Accel as outfitter.

Altamirano said that the league aims to Equip (mentor the coaches), Engage (Get the kids to love the sport), Establish (build the fundamentals) and Empower (Raise our future leaders).

The league opens with in-school program this month, which includes coaching workshop and clinics (first phase) up to March before the inter-school tournament proper (second phase) in April and the LEAD Camp (third phase) in May.

Among the schools in Metro Manila are Muntinlupa Science High School, Pedro Diaz High School, Muntinlupa National High School, Muntinlupa Business High School, Sta. Elena High School, Tañong High School, Parang High School, Marikina Heights High School, Sagad High School, Rizal High School, Kapitolyo High School, Eusebio High School, Krus Na Ligas High School, New Era High School, San Bartolome High School and Sergio Osmeña High School.

From South Luzon and Bicol are Dupay National High School, Dalahican High School, Cota High School, Gulang-Gulang High School, Camarines Sur National High School, Naga City High School, Concepcion Pequena High School Carrarayan High School, Rosario National High School, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo National High School, Emilio Tirona National High School, Noveleta National High School, Palawan National High School, San Jose National High School, San Miguel National High School and Puerto Prinsesa City Science HS.

From Central Luzon are Pampanga High School, Diosdado Macapagal High School, San Juan High School, Sta.
