Hope tossers stay unbeaten

-

MANILA, Philippines - Hope Christian High School bucked the absence of some of its mainstays as it repulsed St. James College-Parañaque, 25-12, 25-17, to remain the only unbeaten team in Pool A of the eighth Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League at the San Juan gym recently.

Desiree Cheng delivered 12 points with six kills as she rallied Hope C-HS past the Sucat-based squad to zero in on one of the quarterfinal berths in the four-division tournament with a 3-0 slate.

In a thrilling three-set duel between two contenders, Univ. of Perpetual Help-Laguna toppled Imus Institute, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, to improve to 2-1 in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s and backed by Asics, LBC, Toby’s Sports and Mikasa.

Nancy Mendiola and Sarah Mance combined for 20 points and four kills as UPH-Laguna dropped Imus Institute to 1-2.

Colegio San Agustin, meanwhile, scored two wins in the day, beating MGC New Life Academy, 25-9, 25-15, in morning play before clipping Angelicum College, 25-8, 25-16, in the afternoon to move to second behind Angeles Univ. (3-0) in Pool C.

Ingrid Reyes, a former National Youth team standout, came through with 16 points, highlighted by four kills, while Jamie Morado scored 14 hits for Angelicum, which slid to 0-2.
