MJC hosts Philtobo 'Gintong Lahi' races
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Jockey Club, Inc. (MJCI) joins hand with the Philippine Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Organization (Philtobo) in honoring the best and the brightest of the local thoroughbred industry with the holding of the Philtobo “Gintong Lahi” Awards and racefest tomorrow at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park (SLBLP) in Carmona, Cavite.
Now on its 13th year, the Philtobo ‘Gintong Lahi Awards’ is the only event of its kind in the country that recognizes the outstanding performers and players of Philippine thoroughbred racing and breeding industries.
“Manila Jockey Club is proud to host the 13th Gintong Lahi Awards, local horse racing’s annual recognition day for its performers which also serves to motivate the industry stakeholders to strive harder to elevate horse racing to greater heights. We hope to be able to host this event annually,” said Alfonso Reyno, Jr. MJCI chairman and CEO.
In a significant but welcome departure from previous editions, this year’s celebration of the “Gintong Lahi Awards” will also serve as lead up to the holding of a daylong racing festival, co-presented by MJCI and Philtobo.
“We are hopeful that by scheduling the Philtobo Gintong Lahi Awards on a race day, ordinary racing fans, as well as, the casual spectator can better appreciate and understand the significance of the awards not only to its direct participants but to the sport in general,” noted Philtobo president Bienvenido “Nonoy” Niles, Jr.
No less than 15 major awards will be handed out during the Philtobo “Gintong Lahi” Awards, set apart in three categories, namely: Equine (Horse), Human and Breeding. Highlight of the awards will be the choice for Horse of the Year, bestowed upon the most outstanding racehorse in the country based on overall achievement in the most important races of the year. 2008 Binibining Pilipinas – International titlist Patricia Fernandez will be hosting the prestigious awards ceremony.
