DLS-Lipa spikers go for Toby's sweep

-

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle-Lipa goes all out for a sweep of the Toby’s Sports Junior Volleyball League crowns, taking on Colegio San Agustin in the girls’ finals while facing Concepcion Elementary School in the boys’ side at Lyceum gym.

Both matches, however, are tipped to go down-to-the-wire with the CSA tossers also raring to stop the Lipa-based squad from scoring a title repeat in the tournament sponsored by Toby’s Sports.

Gametime is at 1 p.m. while the boys’ finals, also a best-of-five affair, will start at 2 p.m.

MGC New Life Academy and F. Benitez Elem School dispute third place honors in the girls’ side at 10 a.m. while Palanan and Elizabeth Seton School meet at 11 a.m. for third place in the boys’ category of the league backed by Shakey’s, LBC, Mikasa, Asics and Metro Sports.

DLS-Lipa disposed of separate rivals in straight-sets to roll into the finals of both divisions with Joshua Diaz powering the men’s side past Palanan Elementary School, 29-9, 25-20.

But they will face a formidable opponent in the CES squad, which boasts of the likes of hitters John Madrigalejos and Ruvince Abrot, who combined to lift the team past Elizabeth Seton School, 25-15, 25-20, in the semis.

With Audrey Paray on the firing end, the DLS-Lipa girls’ team thwarted MGC-New Life Academy, 25-21, 25-16, to stay on course of its back-to-back title bid.

But the CSA spikers are out to foil the defending champions as they primed up for the crown by sweeping the group elims and thumping the F. Benitez, 25-12, 25-14, in the crossover semis.
