Search for champs resumes March 6
MANILA, Philippines - The search for the next batch of racing heroes continues as the “Castrol Champions of the Future” discovery program holds its karting clinic on March 6 at the Carmona Racetrack, Cavite.
It’s the third of the series of karting clinics for young racing wannabes aged seven to 13 years old who aim to live up their racing dreams through this event organized by Castrol and its partners Tuason Racing School, the Automobile Association Philippines, Alaska, Peña Motorsports, AUTS Racing, Bridgestone, PUMA, OMP, Jaguar, Lifeline, Carmona Race Track, The Philippine STAR, 99.5RTfm, Trapik.com, Kzone, Top Gear and Timezone.
Limited slots are available. Applicants must not exceed the maximum height of five feet and a maximum waistline of 30 inches. The clinic includes basic skills and hands on training plus other cool stuff. Registration fee is P3,500.
So far, over 50 young kids showed up in the past two clinics and at least 15 have shown exemplary skills with the potentials to continue the quest for a prominent Filipino world racing champion.
Castrol, a leading global oil company that has been at the forefront of Formula One racing for the past 61 years, hopes the program would be pivotal in developing more Filipino racing talents through the expertise of Tuason Racing School.
“We believe Filipinos have the talent to make it among the world’s best and this program hopefully would open doors for more Jovy Marcelos and Michelle Bumgarners to be discovered and make that dream happen,” said Castrol president Mars Sota.
“This is indeed a very noble project by Castrol and we’re happy to be chosen as the lead agency for the undertaking. We’re elated over the good turnout and we expect more to come in the last two clinics,” said TRS president JP Tuason.
The last of the clinics is set on April 3. Twenty scholarship slots will be given to the most deserving kids after the clinics and those qualified will be battling each other in the four-leg 2011 Castrol Champions of the Future Series.
The winner of the series will be given a scholarship package to run in the National Karting Series from AAP under the tutelage of multi-awarded race car drivers and champion makers JP & Mike Tuason.
