Litonjua, Zuniga best tankers in Gov. Maranon swim meet

-

MANILA, Philippines - Erik Litonjua and Joanna Zuniga emerged most outstanding swimmers in the masters category of the 2011 Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. Cup national age group swimming meet in Bacolod over the weekend.

John Matthew Nacorda, Julian Abanes, Inaki Emil Lorbes, Luis Vicente Evangelista, Emanuel Joshua Lorbes and Joshua Balina gained distinction as most outstanding boys swimmers while Lorrine Fiona, Veanna Lim, Rica Anna Salazar, Febbie Porras, Remselle Limaco and Patricia Zarah Gonzales were the most outstanding girls swimmers.

Diliman Prep School president Nikki Coseteng, who awarded the trophies to the most outstanding swimmers, said they are now starting to “democratize” swimming by bringing the sport to the grassroots level through regional competitions.

Teams from Bacolod, Manila, Cebu, Bohol and Iloilo competed in the swimfest hosted by the Francisco Guanco Swimming Team in coordination with the Philippine Swimming League.

“We are happy that so many swimmers from various clubs have attended the competition,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

Bacolod Mayor Bing Leonardia supported the meet, which was also attended by PASA coach Boogie Simon of the Panaad swim team.
