Hugnatan joins Bolts
MANILA, Philippines - Meralco Bolts toughened up its frontcourt rotation yesterday as it acquired veteran player Reynel Hugnatan in exchange for rookie Hans Thiele and reserve Paolo Bugia.
Hugnatan’s acquisition came a day after the B-Boys were allowed by commissioner Chito Salud to get the services of Marlou Aquino – the third Barako Bull player to be tapped after Pong Escobal and Lordy Tugade.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio was happy with their acquisition of Hugnatan and on the progress of import Anthony Dandridge’s recovery from a strained hamstring.
“Hugnatan is a natural 4 (big forward) who is quick and strong enough to play 5 (center). He’s a defensive stopper who can guard imports who play in the post,” said Gregorio.
“He played all 62 games last season. He’s a bruiser with champion-ship experience,” Gregorio added.
The Meralco mentor also expressed optimism their import would be ready as they play the Barangay Ginebra Kings in the PBA Commissioners Cup opener in Laoag City Friday.
“Dandridge responded well to medication and rehab. With the way he performed in our last two practices, I believe he is ready to take off and fly high,” said Gregorio of their highly touted import who suffered a hamstring injury in a tune-up game versus Rain or Shine a few days back.
