DLS-Lipa enters Toby's jr volley Final Four

-

MANILA, Philippines - De La Salle-Lipa outduelled Elizabeth Seton School in the third set to carve out a 25-22, 22-25, 25-12 victory and sweep the boys’ A division for a berth in the semifinal round of the Toby’s Juniors Volleyball League at Lyceum gym last Sunday.

The Lipa-based spikers recovered from a second set setback and stamped their class in the decider with Joshua Diaz coming up with seven kills to help power the team to its fourth straight win.

That gave La Salle the first berth in the crossover semis where it will face the No. 2 team in boys’ B to be disputed by Ateneo and Palanan Elem. School.

Concepcion Elem School clinched the top spot in boys’ B with a 4-0 slate in the single round elims of the tournament sponsored by Toby’s Sports and backed by Shakey’s, LBC, Mikasa and Asics.

Elizabeth Seton dropped to 2-1 but remained in the race for the No. 2 seat in Pool A. The ESS tossers will try to formalize their semis entry with a win over St. Mary’s Academy on Sunday.

In girls action, De La Salle-Lipa also advanced to the semis with a 25-9, 25-21 victory over F. Benitez ES for its third win in row in Pool A. It goes for a sweep against Miriam College on Sunday.

Despite the loss, F. Benitez also stayed in the hunt with a 2-1 card.

MGC New Life Academy, on the other hand, finished No. 2 in girls B as it subdued De La Salle-Canlubang, 25-14, 25-15, to close out with a 3-1 card.

Colegio San Agustin topped the group with a 4-0 slate.

The semis is set on Feb. 20, also at Lyceum gym.
