MANILA, Philippines - Three-time defending champion University of Manila played true to form as it swept Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, 25-23, 25-16, 25-13, at the start of the NAASCU men’s volleyball championship at the Makati Coliseum recently.
Led by two-time MVP Jet Bautista and handled by multi-titled coach Boyet del Moro, the Hawks dominated the Eagles during their three-set encounter to the delight of a big opening-day crowd.
In other opening-day matches, San Sebastian College-Cavite outlasted STI College, 25-19, 25-12, 23-25, 25-23; New Era University downed AMA Computer University, 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20; and Centro Escolar University subdued Our Lady of Fatima University, 27-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22.
In women’s play, defending champion Lyceum of Subic Bay also opened its title-retention campaign with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-10 victory over University of Makati.
