St. Clare pulls off sweep over Bosco, JRU

-

MANILA, Philippines - Streaking St. Clare Colleges continued to dominate the opposition, completing another three-match sweep to firm up its hold of the lead in the National Collegiate Billiards League at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City over the weekend.

Riding the crest of their 3-0 rout of Don Bosco in their first match, the Saints also swept Jose Rizal University and completed a 9-0 output for the day when La Salle failed to show up, hiking their total to 55 points, seven ahead of their closest pursuers.

Philippine Maritime Institute scored eight out of the maximum nine points in the tournament also known as B-League and forged a two-way tie for second spot with National University at 48 points.

With Troy Montes and Raefred Veron leading the way, the Admirals whipped University of Santo Tomas, 3-0, and then squeaked past University of Manila, 2-1. They received a three-point bonus after San Sebastian failed to show up in the event backed by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Accel and Negros Billiards Stable.

Considered a serious threat to St. Clare’s title bid, NU scored 2-1 wins over Lyceum and Adamson before blasting UST, 3-0.

While the top teams continue to stamp their class in the second round, Far Eastern University stumbled to 1-2 defeats to University of the East and Lyceum before scoring a 3-0 win over University of Makati via forfeiture.

The Tamaraws slipped to third from second with 46 points in the tournament backed by H2O Hotel and Manila Ocean Park.
