7 MisOr pugs gain in ABAP tourney
MANILA, Philippines - Seven fighters of host Misamis Oriental trounced their respective rivals to the delight of the partisan crowd as they advanced in the PLDT-ABAP National Amateur Boxing Championships at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol grounds in Cagayan de Oro.
Daryl Basadre booted out Genesis Libranza of Cabadbaran City in the youth boys’ flyweight while Raphael Jalnaiz crushed Archie Estezeydes, 17-1, in the kids powder weight class.
Roberto Miguel Jalnaiz, on the other hand, whipped Christian Rabo, 18-4, in the school boys’ mosquito class; Salvaña eliminated Jomeric Delariate of Bicol in the school boys paper weight division.
Lao rallied from a 0-5 deficit to beat Jade Bornea, 10-8, in the junior boys pinweight class; Cabanlit bucked the taller Fernando Tacuyan of Angeles City, 14-8, in the junior boys light flyweight division; while Sumaylo bundled out Jeric Fernando of Zamboanga City, 11-4, in the youth boys pinweight class.
MisOr’s lone casualty was Charlie Boy Vertulazo, who lost to Jenno Cabugngan of Tagbilaran City in the youth boys bantamweight class.
Martin Cordova of Bago City also marched to the second round after beating Velmark Dignos of Cebu City, 10-3, in the youth boys pinweight class.
Bukidnon’s Mark Anthony Florida scored a Referee Stop Contest win in one minute and 39 seconds of the second round over Juren Laborado of Bacolod City; Eumir Marcial defeated Dexter Dimaculangan of Laguna via another RSC win; while Argie Moraca of Valencia City scored a 17-10 win over Paul Sacupon of Samar – all in the junior boys light flyweight division.
Meanwhile, Philippine Sports Commissioner Chito Loyzaga handed over two boxes of boxing equipment to MisOr Gov. Oscar Moreno during the flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol.
The turnover ceremony was attended by ABAP executive director Ed Picson, provincial board members Abing Bernaldes, Vice Gov. Norris Babiera, PB Jimmy Caiña and PB Oliver Actub.
