MANILA, Philippines - Letran humbled reigning titlist San Sebastian with a gripping 22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-27, 15-5 victory to complete a three-game sweep of the semifinals to advance to the best-of-three title duel in the 86th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Emilio Aguinaldo Gym.
The big-hitting Manel Carolino uncorked 24 hits she laced with four missile-like service aces, team captain Lalaine Villarin scattered 17 hits including three blocks and Melissa Cu unloaded 15 kills to lift the Lady Knights to the upset victory over the reigning champions in a duel serving as a sneak preview of their best-of-three title duel starting tomorrow.
The Muralla-based school is seeking to nail its first women’s championship since reigning supreme 11 years ago.
Interestingly, Letran lorded it over the field with the power sister duo of Michelle and Mayette Carolino, who are Manel’s elder sisters.
