La Salle netters upend Eagles
MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University got the better of rival Ateneo in closely-contested duel, 3-2, to stay ahead in the UAAP Season 73 men’s lawn tennis competition at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The Green Archers banked on the victories of David Alexander De Koenigswarter and Juan Fidel Regis in the second doubles match and Michael Basco in the third singles to pull off the come-from-behind triumph, their third in as many outings.
De Koenigswarter and Regis stamped their class on Ateneo’s Mark Balce and Jolo Opulencia, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4, while Basco turned back Ayo Canlas, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, to clinch it for DLSU.
Ernesto Pantua accounted for the other win for DLSU, a 6-0, 6-0 spanking of Mark Trinos.
Also victorious was defending champion University of Santo Tomas, which notched its second straight triumph at the expense of University of the East, 5-0.
Bernan Lou Bering (first singles), RK Barte and Alfrancis Potutan (first doubles), Kim Saraza (second singles), Gerald Pinili and Arn Procianos (second doubles) and Ryan Montalbo (third singles) completed the Tigers’ sweep of the Warriors and put them within striking distance of DLSU.
