Razcals pummel Singaporeans; Indonesians up

-

MANILA, Philippines –  The Philippines’ “Little Razcals” Pony Mustang Baseball team blew hot amid the cold Vietnamese weather, demolishing Singapore, 13-3, at the start of the Pony Baseball Mustang Division Asia-Pacific Zone Championship yesterday.

Bucking the chilling conditions at the Vin Yen baseball field in Vinh Phuc Province, Vietnam, the Little Razcals peppered the Singaporeans with seven runs right in the first inning to rip the game apart.

Atong Natanauan and Enzo Montemayor, the Little Razcals’ Tanauan-Manila pitching tandem, secured the win by holding the hapless Singaporeans to only three runs the rest of the way.

The Filipino batters take on host Vietnam today with a victory virtually sending them into the championship match of the four-nation, 10-and-under baseball tournament.

Looming as the Little Razcals’ toughest rival is Indonesia, which kicked off its own bid with a merciless 29-1 rout of Vietnam in yesterday’s opener.

The Indon clouters underscored their dominance by whacking two grandslams and pulling off a whopping 30 stolen bases against the overmatched Vietnamese.

“Indonesia looms as our strongest opponent here. They have strong pitchers, fast base runners and big hitters,” said Phl Pony Baseball president and Pony Southeast Asian representative Boy Tingzon whose wards will have a crack at the Indonesians tomorrow in the last day of eliminations before their expected title showdown on Sunday.

The Little Razcals are gunning for the championship in the competition where the winner will represent Asia Pacific to the Mustang World Series in Texas in August.
