Lim, Capadocia claim Andrada Cup double
MANILA, Philippines – Albert Lim Jr. and Marian Jade Capadocia each reigned supreme in two events to head the winners’ circle in the 2011 Andrada Cup age-group tennis championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.
Lim, 11, wrested the boys’ 14-and-under plum from last year’s titlist Daniel Villasenor with a thrilling 7-6 (1), 7-5 triumph then annexed the boys’ 12-and-under title via a 6-0, 6-3 beating of Jerome Romualdez to complete a double.
Similarly dominating was Capadocia, who lived up to her top seeding and swept the girls’ 18-U and 16-U gold medals.
Capadocia hammered out a 6-4, 6-1 spanking of No. 2 Louise Alexandra Lopez to seize the premiere 18-U plum and sideswiped Akiko de Guzman, 6-1, 6-2, to top the 16-U as well.
Sharing the limelight were Isabella Orteza, who upstaged the country’s No. 1 player in the 14-U, and Michael Eala, who ruled the 10-U unisex without dropping a game.
A day after bumping second seed Erika Manduriao off the title picture, No. 3 Orteza dropped the upset axe on top ranked Maia Balce, 6-2, 6-3, to lay claim to the 14-U throne.
