MANILA, Philippines - Alberto Lim Jr. shocked top seed Mimo Tomacruz in a thrilling three-setter as upset rocked the Andrada Cup age-group tennis championships yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Lim dropped the opening set but fought back hard to score a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 triumph over Tomacruz and secure the first finals berth in the boys’ 12-under division.
No. 3 Jerome Romualdez and Mahmod Dimacuta were disputing the other championship slot at presstime.
Lim, champion in the last PSC national age-group netfest, is also in contention in the 14-U class, advancing to the quarterfinals after a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 win over Julian Dayrit in the second round earlier in the day.
Also pulling off reversals were Juan Alfonso Opulencia in the boys’ 16-U and Patricia Orteza in the girls’ 18-U.
