Phl Pony IX vies in AsPac Zonals
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Pony baseball squad sets out for the first Asia Pacific Zone Mustang (9-10 years old) Division Championships slated Jan. 13-16 in Vietnam, looking for no less than a victory and a berth in the World Series in Texas.
Bannered by the boys from the Tanauan City, Batangas and reinforced by the leading players from the Metro Schools League, the Phl team hopes to get past Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam in the four-team championship at the Vinh Yen City Stadium in Vinh Phuc Province.
Phl Pony Baseball president and Pony Southeast Asian representative Boy Tingzon has expressed his confidence for a triumphant campaign by the “Little Rascals” in the tournament where the winner will earn the right to represent the region to the annual Pony Baseball Mustang World Series in Burleson, Texas.
The Little Rascals, according to Tingzon, have been practicing 3-4 times a week as they prime up for the big event.
The World Series cast will include the other winners in the different zones of Pony Baseball, including those in the USA, the Caribbean and Asia.
“Since this is the first time the Asian Zone Championships will be held in this division, all Asian Pony member countries are very supportive and excited about the event therefore, I really feel a resurgence of baseball interest in the Southeast Asian Region,” said Abraham Key, Pony International president.
Tingzon also said that Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, India and Pakistan are expected to join the tournament next year.
