Coyuito celebrates New Year with bang

MANILA, Philippines – Samantha Coyuito is celebrating the New Year with a double championship practically won on a silver platter after four consecutive easy matches over separate rivals Thursday in the rain-marred 2010 Milo Junior Tennis Cup at the Philam Homes Tennis Club in Quezon City.

Coyuito defeated Malaysian Alex Milvia, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinal of the girls’ 18-under, then came back to score a 6-2, 6-3 victory past Monica Banez in the Final 4 of the girls’ 16-under division.

The comely Coyuito eventually bagged both crowns after finals opponents Patricia Orteza and sister Katrina Orteza had to rush to the airport for a series of international tournaments abroad.

Youngest sister Isabella Orteza, however, whitewashed Marie Ann San Jose, 6-2, 6-0, to bring home the girls’ 14-under jewel.

In the boys’ 18-under bracket, topseed Dheo Talatayod edged Calvin Canlas, 7-6, 6-7, 10-6, to barge into the Last 4 of the Milo netfest organized by the CTW Group with sanction from Philta and supported by PSC.

Kyle Joseph turned back Richard Martinez, 6-2, 7-6, while Arjay Canoza demolished Elison Bingcang, 6-1, 6-0, in the lower half of the draw.
