Black, Lim named UAAP-NC top coaches

-

MANILA, Philippines – The UAAP-NCAA Press Corps will name Norman Black and Frankie Lim as the year’s top coaches when the Collegiate Basketball Awards is held Jan. 17 at the Topaz 1 of the Gateway Suites in Cubao, Quezon City.

Black and Lim earned the nod of the joint UAAP -NCAA Press Corps as coaches of the year after steering their teams to the championship in the recent collegiate season.

The event, presented by Smart Communications Inc. and supported by Accel, 316, FilOil, Terrilicious, Gatorade, San Miguel Corp. and the Philippine Sportswriters Association will start at 7 p.m.

Black will receive his third straight UAAP Coach of the Year plum after guiding Ateneo’s drive to a 10-4 record in the eliminations and into their third straight championship. The Blue Eagles swept top-seed Far Eastern University in the finals of the league’s 73rd season.

Lim, on the other hand, will accept his second NCAA Coach of the Year award after San Beda finished Season 86 with a perfect record. The Red Lions posted a 16-game sweep of the elims and then swept the San Sebastian Stags in the championship round for their fourth title in five years.

Black and Lim also shared the same honors during the 2008 edition of the awards night.

Also to be named are members of the Collegiate Mythical Team that will feature the five finest players from both leagues this season.

The press corps will also give out the UAAP and NCAA Juniors Player of the Year as well as the Super Seniors and Pivotal Player award to a select group of players in the sixth edition of the event.
