Golden Aloha tops FFG X'mas Cup

-

MANILA, Philippines - Golden Aloha Boardsports subdued HedCen Redwoods, 5-2, to capture the Rosita M. Formoso Cup, the main trophy in the season-ending 2010 Football For Good Christmas Festival at the La Salle Green Hills pitch over the weekend.

Three other titles were disputed with FC Elro Boys Town, backed by Patxi Elizalde; Leveriza Apache, supported by the Mantecon family; and Tuloy Amici of Danny Moran winning their respective divisions.

The Philippine Christian Foundation and Tuloy Cara, meanwhile, ruled the boys and girls divisions, respectively, in the New Team division of the tournament, held in memory of the mother of Ed Formoso, head of football programs of the Henry Moran Foundation, who passed away last month.

The family donated P10,000 worth of gift certificates which the champion Golden Aloha and runner-up HedCen Redwoods agreed to share.

Marlon Escabrera, Eduard Aluizo, and Ronilo Bayan of Golden Aloha Boardsports led the roster of players named to the FFG Dream Team. They include Godofredo Ocmer of Leveriza Apache’s, Gerryboy Joaquino of Tuloy Amici, Ronald Bergonio of HedCen Redwoods. Futkal-Center For Possibilities donated six footballs to the members of the dream team.

The Golden Aloha Boardsports from Golden City, Dasmariñas Cavite was coached by Robert Francisco with national player Freddy Gonzales as their patron. Francisco was the team captain of the squad that represented the country in the 2009 Milan Homeless World Cup.

The event, backed by Jollibee, Purefoods, Gatorade and La Salle Green Hills, drew 300 less privileged youths, who were treated to breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner by 90 patrons. The Philippine Christian Foundation, through founder Jane Walker, also donated 100 spikes to the participants in the event organized by the La Salle Green Hills Football Program, Philippine Christian Foundation, 90 Ninongs & Ninangs (donors), and The Henry V. Moran Foundation.

TV Patrol’s Alex Santos also came and gave away footballs with Mario Titoy of the Philippine miracle team that saw action in the South Africa Street Child World Cup last March as one of the recipients.

The next meet, to be billed as the first Football For Good Championships, has been set March 26-28, 2011.
