Xavier leads jr B-League

MANILA, Philippines - Pacesetting Xavier College edged De La Salle-Greenhills, 2-1, to remain on top spot in the junior division of the first National Collegiate Billiards League (B-League) recently at the Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City.

The tandem of Xavier’s Biondi Te and Carlos Que outclassed junior cue artists Keno dela Paz and Hadley Mariano, 5-1, in the 8-ball doubles to gain momentum.

Mariano, a top junior cue artist of Bugsy Promotions and a back-to-back titlist of MAPPA billiards tilt, got back at Xavier’s Que, 7-1, in the 9-ball duel to even their match but Te scored a convincing 7-1 win over DLS-G’s Karlo Marcilla to post XC’s second straight victories in as many games in the weekend-only collegiate tournament.

In the other junior match, Pasig Catholic School outshone Claret School, 2-1. The PSC pair of Jerome Pascual and Daniel Cruz edged Claret’s Niel Porincula and Rey Macaranas in 8-ball doubles.

Hans Pablo bounced back, giving Pasig bet Ogie de Guzman a 7-2 shellacking in 10-ball but Cruz nailed his 7-3 win for PCS at the expense of Kyle Torente to stay in contention in the league organized by Perry Mariano of Bugsy’s and Reli de Leon of Accel.

Xavier leads the pace with 5 points followed by DLS-G (3 pts.) while PCS has 2 points, Ateneo and Claret with a point. St. Mary’s has yet to score a point.
