CSA sweeps rivals in Toby's jr volley opener

-

MANILA, Philippines - Colegio San Agustin racked up twin victories in both divisions as it kicked off its title drive in the Toby’s Juniors Volleyball League on a high note at the Lyceum gym over the weekend.

Ruvince Abbot and John Madrigalejos combined for 14 points to power CSA to a 25-13, 25-15 victory over Academy of God’s Children in the lone boys’ division game before a packed crowd of parents, teachers and students.

The duo delivered six kills apiece and came through with two blocks each as the CSA spikers seized control early and sustained their form in the second frame to complete the sweep.

CSA actually bucked the sidelining of setter Rodney Espejo due to injury midway in the second set but the rest got the job done to register the win in the two-division, 10-team field of the tournament sponsored by Toby’s Sports.

CSA made it a double win after its girls’ team routed De La Salle-Canlubang, 25-6, 25-10 as Samantha Torres stood out with 12 kills.

F. Benitez III Elem. School matched CSA’s straight-set win with a 25-12, 25-15 victory over Jesus Christ Academy in the other contest in the girls’ side of the event organized by Metro Sports and backed by Shakey’s Pizza, LBC, Mikasa and Asics.

The top two teams in each bracket of both divisions after a single round-robin elims will advance to the crossover semis with the winners clashing for the crown in best-of-five sets.
