Ferrer-Palines pair tops Orchard's FC

MANILA, Philippines - Jojo Ferrer and partner Alejandro Palines Jr. put in a pair of solid rounds at the Palmer and Players courses and came away with a combined net of 29-under 137 points to capture the overall championship in the 14th Founders Cup at the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite over the weekend.

Both 17-handicappers, Ferrer and Palines turned in an impressive net 18-under 90 points under the handicap Modified Stableford scoring system at the Palmer layout then assembled a net 11-under 47 in the best-ball with handicap format when play shifted to the Player course for that winning 137 output.

Paul Salvador and Dan Salvador III, both single handicappers, took the high gross points/low gross title as they pooled 93 points, including a gross 60-point effort at Palmer and a 33 at Player in the 36-hole tournament of the club’s premier annual club championship.

Brett Butler and Jack Roxas sustained their superb first round charge of a net nine-under 81 at Palmer with a net seven-under 43 at the Player in the second round to fashion out a nine-point romp in Class A with a net 16-under 124 aggregate.

Dondi Primicias and Mike Besa took the runner-up honors with a net seven-under 115 total, including 67 points at Palmer and 43 points at Player. Francisco delos Santos and Constantino Navarro copped the Class B crown with a net 26-under 134 from a pair of net 13-under cards as they held off the Ronnie Olaguera-Gareth McGeoen, who pooled a net 23-under 131, including a net 16-under card at Player.

Roberto Cabigas and Noly Sodusta took the Class C plum with a net 21-under 129, anchored on a net 13-under 49 points at Player, defeating the Gerry Sy-Joey Crisostomo tandem, which had a net 14-under 122 from a 78 and a 44.

Ricardo Odulio and Serge Fojas also cruised to the victory in Class D, firing a net 13-under 85 at Palmer and a net 11-under 47 at Player for a 132 and a seven-point victory over Danilo Hernandez and Josie Amon, who combined for a 125 from an 82 and a 43.

Homer Saquilayan and Anthony Ingalla leaned on their net 12-under 48 points at Player to pool a 119 and nip Butch Arguelles and Finnina Gorres, who had a 47 at Player, in the countback to rule the Sponsors Division of the tournament which staked more than P2 million in prizes, including an all-expense paid business class ticket for two to San Francisco via Philippine Airlines with three-day and two-night accommodation at the Half Moon Bay Resort, plus two rounds of golf.
