Teng powers Xavier past St. Clare
MANILA, Philippines - Jeron Teng exploded for 47 points as Xavier School demolished St. Clare College of Caloocan, 89-77, to rule the Under-18 Golden Stallions Cup Championship at the Fr. Rafael Cortina Sports Center of Xavier School in San Juan recently.
Teng proved unstoppable inside as he made 18 of 24 shots for an impressive 75 percent shooting clip. He also made all but two of his 13 free throws and finished with 16 rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks.
Xavier School also retained its crown in the Under-30 division which came on the Alumni Association of Xavier School’s celebration of its 50th anniversary.
Drawing solid performance from Sammy Young, former UAAP Rookie of the Year winner Woody Co, Donnel Ong and Marvin Sioco, the Caesar Wongchuking-mentored 30-Under squad crushed St. Jude, 79-51, to complete a two-game sweep of their best-of-three championship.
Also shining for 30-under squad were Denden Coyiuto, Geo Sia and Jett Manuel, who also anchored the team’s romp in the Philippine Cultural Invitational tournament.
In the Over-30 Division finals, St. Stephen’s High School alumni squad nosed out Chiang Kai Shek College, 72-71.
