Santo Tomas, two others go for 2nd wins in B-League

-

MANILA, Philippines –  University of Santo Tomas and two other squads go for win No. 2 as action in the National Collegiate Billiards League resumes today at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.

UST swept La Salle, 3-0, at the Manila Ocean Park last week and is tipped to get past Philippine Maritime Institute and National University in two of the featured matches in the tournament backed by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Accel.

Jose Rizal University and St. Clare College, the two other teams that posted similar 3-0 wins in the opener, tangle in the other featured match before battling San Sebastian College and La Salle, respectively, in their next matches.

University of Manila will also make its debut in the tournament, backed by H2O Hotel, Manila Ocean Park, Negros Billiards Stable, Malungai Life Oil, Niknok Pritson Manok, Hermes Sports Bar, Human Plus Probiotics, Star Billiards Center, Brunswick, The Philippine STAR, Bugsy Promotions and Mediacom, as it takes on Philippine Maritime Institute at 2 p.m. before squaring off with Adamson at 4 p.m.

Also on tap are the juniors matches with pre-tourney favorite La Salle Greenhills clashing with Fatima.

One of the players to watch in the juniors division is Hadley Mariano, son of billiards patron Perry Mariano, vice-president of the tournament also known as the B-League.

Other opening-day winners were University of the East, National University, Letran, Centro Escolar University and University of Makati.
