Capadocia, 5 others gain in Phinma tilt

MANILA, Philippines – Marian Jade Capadocia swept past Mariel Zire Ante of the US, 6-3, 6-3, to join five others into the next round of the Phinma International Junior Tennis Championship at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Also advancing were Desirae Krawczyk of the US, Darya Chertnetsova of Belarus, Natsumi Chimura of Japan, Yong Joo Jung of South Korea and Genki Yoshida of Japan.

Chertnetsova defeated Jennifer Lu of the US, 6-1, 6-2; Chimura turned back Natalia Khaniejo, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2; Yong ripped Kirsteen Rebuyas, 6-1, 6-1; and Yoshida subdued Eric Roman de Romas, 6-2, 6-0.

The tournament, presented by Phinma Properties in cooperation with the ITF Grand Slam Development Fund, offers ranking points for the top finishers. It is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Slazenger Balls, Chris Sports, Viva Mineral Water, Powerade, Coca-Cola Bottlers Phils., Inc., and Century Park Hotel.

The singles event champion will get 40 ranking points while the runner-up will garner 30 points. The two semifinalists will receive 20 points apiece while the quarterfinalists will be given 15 points.

For the doubles champion, an additional 30 ranking points will be given while the runners-up and the semifinalists will gain 20 and 15 points apiece.
