Local races kick off FIM Asian finals
MANILA, Philippines - Three straight weekends of motocross action will be held beginning this weekend leading to the final round of the 2010 FIM Asian Motocross/Supercross Championship Series next month at the Speedworld MX Circuit at SM City Bicutan.
The series is an annual event pitting the country’s leading riders against the region’s best under the FIM Asian union for the continental title.
The event kicks off at the Speedworld MX Circuit at SM Bicutan on Nov. 28 with the staging of Round 11 of the 2010 NAMSSA National Motocross Series.
The races, organized by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA), mark the penultimate round of the national motorcycle event in the country where national titles in over 10 individual categories are disputed, including the much coveted National Motocross Rider of the Year crown.
Action shifts to Palayan City in Nueva Ecija on Dec. 5 with the staging of the Mayor Romeo Capinpin Motocross Cup, an invitational motocross event, which also serves as the final tune-up for the Phl team competing in the Asian MX finals.
Three-time Motocross Rider of the Year Kenneth San Andres heads the roster of local riders competing in the series.
Out to foil San Andres, a cinch to clinch his fourth straight ROY title, are Migi Tolentino and veteran Jolet Jao, the No. 2 and 3 riders, respectively, in the Pro 125 scoreboard.
San Andres is currently in fifth place in the Asian Championships paced by Japanese Tomoya Suzuki who has 142 points after three rounds.
Khaliunbold Erdenbileg and Iran’s Ami Reza Sabetifar tote 136 and 124 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ Jerrick Mitra will formally clinch the title in the FIM Asian Junior 85 event, which he leads with 150 points in three rounds.
