SWU, USC firm up bids for Sweet 16
MANILA, Philippines - Southwestern University and University of San Carlos hurdled their respective rivals to enhance their bid for the final two Sweet 16 berths in the 2010 Philippine Collegiate Champions League Visayas-Mindanao Zonals Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Cobras downed Agro-Industrial Foundation College while the Warriors defeated University of Iloilo as they hope to join the likes of University of Cebu and University of Visayas in the opening games of the knockout phase tomorrow.
Fancied Manila teams Far Eastern University and Jose Rizal University will also take part in the opening festivities, slated in Cebu for the first time.
The winners from the Nov.18 games then follow the FEU-JRU game as they battle for the tag “Southern Islands Overall Collegiate Champion,” concluding the PCCL opening festivities – the highlight of the “Cebu Basketball Festival.”
Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama is going to be the guest of honor in the opening.
Action shifts to Manila on Nov. 22 as Mapua Institute of Technology collides with National University, while De la Salle University tangles with Letran at the Arena in San Juan.
